When I start making trees I won't need many of them for my micro. That being said, I will have to make the trees I do use exceptional.
One thing I find with model railroad trees is I can't figure out what the heck they are when I look at them. Real trees don't work that way. They have rather specific shapes. That being said, for the tree builder who wants the most realistic trees possible (this would work well in O or G scales....) here is a great link
www.cnr.vt.edu/dendro/...common.cfm
You can find info on the tree, the shape, color, all that. At the bottom is a US forestry link that gives extremely speficic information about the tree and it's range.
Just in case anyone wants to really get intot their tree making Smile

Great site, allows the development of non-generic model trees.

I found this site by looking for the shape of an aspen tree. I found a company selling an aspen that looked nothing like an aspen in structure and I thought it was wrong. In the background it would work but if that tree is along the front of the tree line........no one would believe it is an aspen. In N scale these shapes are going to be real tough to accomplish. The front trees will be branched properly, in the back, I will still observe the shape of the tree but the branch stucture won't be tightly followed.
While comparing real tree shapes to some model railroad layout photos I noticed that the model trees just didn't have the same look as the real thing. It wasn't color differences or branch placement that was off, it was that the trees more or less followed the same generic shape when that doesn't happen in real life. Anyway, just my 2 cents toward hopefully providing something useful.

Knudsen, don't be surprised to see your LPB's having a parade in your honor. I haven't had sassafras tea in quite some time. This weekend might be a good time to lay in a few roots.

I did a search on the site and found NO Persimmion? So here is a 10 foot tall Persimmion and it's fruit, which is nearing ripeness. This is a young tree and is in its third bearing. It may get to 30 foot someday. These fruit need a frost (or picked and frozen in the freezer overnight)to finish them and make them sweet. Fred
